What is a Piñata?

In Mexico, during special occasions like a birthday, Easter or Christmas, children are treated with a piñata. A piñata is filled with sweets and/or small toys. It is suspended on a rope from tall tree or immovable object. Children are blindfolded and given a stick to try to break the piñata so that everyone can get the treats and/or toys. During the game everyone sings the "Dale Dale" song. Here are the lyrics:

......Spanish..................................................................English...............
Dale, dale, dale,...................................Hit it, hit it, hit it (or "go, go, go")
no pierdas el tino;.................................Don't lose your aim...........
Porque si lo pierdes..............................Because if you lose it (your aim).
pierdes el camino.................................You will lose the path........
Ya le diste una,....................................You've already hit it once.............
ya le diste dos;.....................................You've already hit it twice......
Ya le diste tres,....................................You've already hit it thrice.....
¡y tu tiempo se acabó!...........................And your time is over.............
Here are pictures of some piñatas.
